Day Trips

For an additional cost, the Irish alumni have planned some amazing cultural and educational experiences in the Munster region, including the highly sought after World UNESCO site and Ireland’s favourite visitor experience: The Cliffs of Moher.

  • Do not book a day trip when you need to be onsite for other AAW events! Photography/rehearsal for ’60s – ’80s casts is on Thursday. Photography/rehearsal for ’90s+ casts is on Friday.

  • If staying on campus, breakfast is served from 7:00 to 9:30 each morning during the main dates of the event, EXCEPT on Monday, 20 July, it will start at 6:00.
  • Be aware that many evenings there will be a quick turnaround for the evening activities, so plan in advance for dinner.
  • Each day trip remains open for booking until sold out OR until May 8, whichever is earlier. After May 8, should space become available, we will announce that immediately. Reserve by May 8 to ensure your place!
  • Registered attendees have priority in booking day trips until April 9. Beginning April 9, additional non-registered family members can be added to your day trip booking if space is still available. Email registration@uwpiaa.org to inquire about availability.
  • All trips depart from the UWPIAA Bus Stop, in front of the University Concert Hall Foundation Building. This is a true UWP day on the bus, and the bus will depart on schedule.
  • You must have your name badge and wristband to board the bus. If you arrive AFTER AAW check-in closes the night before your tour, report to the UWPIAA Bus Stop 20 minutes BEFORE the loading time listed on each trip page. See the Check-in Desk schedule here.
  • Please watch for the sign in the front of the bus to identify each tour. Get to know your volunteer tour leader and have a great day!
  • All tours are scheduled to return by 18:00 with the exception of Killarney on July 26, which will return around 20:15. If you have a child in a Legacy Xperience programme, child supervision before and until you return from your trip will be possible.
  • It is customary but not required to tip the driver. Your Irish alum tour guide will pass an envelope for an optional contribution.

Trips Offered

Cliffs of Moher and Inis Oírr (Inisheer)

  • €98 (includes box lunch)
  • Offered Monday, July 20 only
  • Minimum to proceed: 30
  • Experience the majestic Cliffs of Moher, and then just 15 minutes by ferry to soak in the rich culture of the Irish-speaking island of Inís Oír.

Tipperary Culture Day – Home Visit and Irish Heritage Centre

  • €90 (includes tea and scones)
  • Offered Monday, July 20 and Wednesday, July 22
  • Minimum to proceed: 30
  • A visit to an Irish home with a demonstration of traditional Irish baking, plus a stop at the Nenagh Irish Heritage Centre.

Hanly Woollen Mill Experience & Birr Castle Tour

Burren & Ennis Experience

Galway City and Claddagh Walking Tour

  • Guided walk in the footsteps of the original fishermen of the Claddagh, and take a stroll to Ed Sheeran and Saoirse Ronan’s pubs featured in Ed’s “Galway Girl” video.

Ancient & Mythical Ireland

  • Offered Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24
  • Minimum to proceed: 20
  • A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore ancient and mythical Ireland in the company of internationally acclaimed Celtic spirituality expert, writer, and singer Nóirín Ní Riain.

Irish Culinary & Castle Experience

  • Offered Friday, July 24 only
  • Minimum to proceed: 30
  • An immersive experience in Irish cuisine with a demonstration of historical and modern-day baking — truly a foodie’s delight — plus a tour of Birr Castle. (Note that this trip combines the Irish baking experience from the Tipperary Culture Day with the Birr Castle tour from the Hanly Woollen Mill Experience & Birr Castle trip.)

Killarney

  • Visit the village of Adare, tour Killarney National Park in a jaunting car, visit Victorian-era Muckross House, and stroll the town of Killarney for shopping and pubs.
