Carla M. Campbell

Carla Marie Campbell, 73, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away May 23, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, Kansas.
Carla was born January 19, 1952, in Soap Lake, Washington, daughter of Francis “Zeke” E. and Agnes B. (Jones) Wagner Jr. After a brief period living in Kansas, the family moved to Marietta, Georgia, where she attended school and graduated from Marietta High School in 1970. While in high school, she spent two years travelling the United States, Canada, and Europe as a member of the performing youth group, “Up with People.”
Upon graduation, Carla attended American University in Washington D.C. She later transferred to her father’s alma mater, Kansas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1978, a Bachelor of Arts-Modern Language in 1979, and a Master of Public Administration in 1993. During her undergraduate years, she met and married her husband, Rick, in 1975.
At the time of her retirement, she was employed as a State Budget Analyst for the Department of Health & Environment, in Topeka, Kansas.
Carla became a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the Kansas State University chapter, in 1997, and is a current member of Beta Sigma Phi International – Wamego.
Carla enjoyed music, reading, bird watching, and growing roses and flowers; peonies being her favorite. She loved her trips abroad with girlfriends to France and Italy, winter trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and excursions to Canada. Time spent with her sorority sisters was special, as was family time and time spent with the grandkids.
Carla is survived by her husband, Rick; daughter, Anna K. Campbell (Keven Lesley), Pratt, Kansas; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew I.L. and Rebecca (Fateley) Campbell, Wamego, Kansas; and her grandchildren, Augustus, Eleanor, Harrison, and Marshall Campbell.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara (Wagner) Olson.
Carla’s family will greet visitors during a Visitation held at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, KS, on May 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wamego, KS, on May 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Mike Peterson officiating. A Committal Service will be held at Hardtner Cemetery, Hardtner, Kansas, on May 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
