Memories

Ruedi Hahnloser, a native of Switzerland, was at the Mackinac Island Conference and part of the original Sing-Out ’65. He was part of various casts doing advance work from 1965>1971. His son, Peter and former wife, Dianne Carrell (1965>1967, Mackinac College), were with him in his last days and peaceful passing.

I admired Ruedi for his wisdom and leadership. What he said was worth listening to – independent and creative thoughts. He was always on the move, tireless and dynamic.

Early in 1965 I had the privilege of spending a week with the Hahnloser family in Zürich to rest after hectic times. This was the period with MRA films and plays on tour, – just before the creation of Sing Out.

Mother Hahnloser and Ruedi asked me what I wished for to my 21st birthday in February. Being a musician myself, my wish was the brand-new musical movie “My Fair Lady”. It was an enjoyable evening, with all the generosity typical of Ruedi and the Hahnloser family.

Who could predict that the instrument of musical turned out to be the future for all of us….?

With gratitude for Ruedi’s friendship and leadership.
