Alumni Safari in Kenya

By: Myriam Keyser Johnson, '74A

Come join alumni for a once-in-a-lifetime safari in Kenya.

Myriam Keyser Johnson (’74-’95) and Scott Johnson (’83, ’85, ’93-’96) are leading two groups of 20 people each January 20-27, 2026 and January 25 – Feb. 1 for two days in Nairobi and six days in the Maasai Mara.

Experience a majestic herd of elephants grazing in the tall grass; come upon a pride of lions gathered under an acacia tree; watch giraffes gracefully walk in the savanna; spot a leopard relaxing in a tree. Visit students at the local high school. Plant trees in the Up with People Alumni Forest. Deliver supplies to a medical clinic. Relax in luxurious accommodations after an unforgettable day of wildlife and the beautiful Maasai Mara.

After watching this video of our trip this past February, you’ll want to come.

Quotes:

“Visiting Kenya was truly a life-changing experience for us. We were in awe of the majestic animals, moved by the peaceful beauty of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and inspired by the warmth of the Maasai people.”

– Jenn Nash (’97A) and Kipp Kramer (’99 -’00 staff)

“Traveling solo on my first safari was easy and fun when all of the participants were Up with People alumni, family and friends….Some of us are planning on traveling together again.”

– Colleen Dowd (’84A)

“My fellow safari travelers – both UWP alumni and friends of alumni – spent time with impressionable students at the Talek Girls Secondary School and planted trees in the Up With People Alumni Forest. This experience reinforced my sense of responsibility to preserve this vulnerable land of grandeur and the Maasai culture.”

– Nancy Bowman (’77A, ’81E)
