“Can We Sing a Song of Peace” Flash Mob in Vienna

By: UWPIAA

In April, nearly 100 alumni gathered in Vienna for the 35th annual European Alumni Meeting. The event, organized by Fabiana Zoroni (’93E) and Silke Regev (’90D), was a celebration of all things Vienna: A waltz workshop, the Schönbrunn Palace, Viennese coffee houses, the art of Hundertwasser and, of course, strudel!

But one event stood out to the residents of Vienna.

As people strolled through the beautiful Stephansplatz (St. Stephen’s Square) on a bright, sunny day, a song softly began … and then built to a message that is more relevant to the world than ever.

“We wanted to take a stand and make our message visible at a time when the desire for peace is particularly strong given global conflicts,” Fabiana explained. “Stephansplatz — as the heart of the city — was the ideal place for us to share this message. At the same time, the flash mob was an expression of our gratitude to the city of Vienna, which welcomed our international group so warmly. With our initiative, we want to pass on our values and set an example for peace and solidarity.”

Truly carrying on the mission and ideals we all learned in UWP. Congratulations to the team and everyone who participated!
