How would you Reach Out?

UWP Alumni Helping UWP Alumni

Times changed from when you traveled. We are so fortunate for our time together on the road. Now years later, many of our cast mates and friends have fallen on hard times.  The full reality of life after the road sets in—jobs disappear, housing becomes critical, difficult medical issues come up.

How would you Reach Out to help a family member if you knew they were living on $5 a day or surviving off only a monthly food box?  How would you help someone in your family that was only eating one meal a day? Imagine if your entire food budget every day was less than the cost of one Starbucks coffee. Of the alumni whom Reach Out has aided, 1 out of 6 struggled to get the food they needed daily, some living on one meal a day.

How would you Reach Out to help a family member that was homeless? How would you assist someone in your family that is sleeping on a couch or in a car?  Not everyone has a roof over their head.  Of the alumni we have supported, 1 out of 4 were homeless or about to be evicted from their home.  Reach Out addresses our alumni familys’ urgent needs.

How would you Reach Out to help a family member if you knew that they were dealing with one or several major medical conditions? Or if you had a family member that needed medicine to get through their day-to-day living?  How would you react? What would you do to change their situation?  Could you change their situation? Reach Out is the facilitator of that change.  We identify those alumni in need and then find solutions (both financial and non-financial) to address their greatest need.

Of the alumni we have aided, 1 out of 2 were facing medical challenges that Reach Out assisted through both financial and non-financial means.

We are family.  We make a difference in the lives of our alumni.  Reach Out supports our alumni family when they have nowhere else to turn.  Here is how you can support our alumni family:

Give a one-time or monthly donation.

Reach Out is funded 100% by UWP alumni for UWP alumni.  If you are interested in giving a tax-deductible donation to support Reach Out to help our alumni in need, please go to www.roaan.org/donate.

Participate in our annual fundraisers.

Reach Out’s main source of income comes from alumni donations to our two annual fundraisers: our summer reunion, “Get your Reunion Room/Reunion Registration Paid” Fundraiser, and our end-of-year-giving, “Empty Stocking” Fundraiser.

Are you attending reunion this summer? Get your reunion fundraiser tickets early at: www.roaan.org/reunionchance.htm.

Give through United Way.

Make Reach Out your charity of choice with United Way. Please contact your HR department to help set this up. Our 501(c)3 is #3154159.

Shop at Amazon.

Amazon Prime Day is July 16! When you shop at AmazonSmile, Amazon will donate a portion of your purchases to Reach Out. Go to www.roaan.org/amazonsmile to start shopping.

Join our Care Network.

We are looking for alumni with specialties in the helping professions of counseling, nursing, social services, legal, life coaches, health insurance, and disability assistance. Please email info@roaan.org to get more involved with our alumni who need you.

Do you know alumni in need?  Right now, someone in our alumni family needs help.

If you, or an alum you know, are in need, please go to http://www.roaan.org/need.htm and fill out an application for assistance. Note: All applications are kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone without the applicant’s consent.

Reach Out has assisted our alumni family since 2009.  If you would like to know more about Reach Out and its mission or to get more involved, please go to http://www.roaan.org.

  1. Dear Up with People fellows,
I am an Alumni Cast A 1982 who would be keen to reach out to Alumni world wide to start exploring partnerships with the ones who work in the private sector. I am working for UNICEF and we wish to expand our partnership with the private sector and I am therefore looking for Alumni I could start an informal discussion with.
